Pet o' the Month
March 2010 Pet o' the Month...ZOE
In honor of St. Patrick's Day this month, we had to find ourselves a cute redhead...and here she is! Zoe is a mere 4 1/2 pounds of gingersnap toy poodle with a personality all her own. She's only 2 1/2, but is an independent girl who's more kitty-like than poodle. Owner/Mom Naomi is just waiting for her to start meowing. Until then, Zoe is perfectly happy twirling like a ballerina, shaking hands, and being an all-around cutie.
February 2010 Pet o' the Month...SEAMUS
Seamus (Shay-mus) is one of the famous Irish Boys of Dublin Bay! He is a mushy, gushy goober who is in absolute heaven whenever Mom Nancy comes to visit. He follows her around, crawls all through her stuff, meows at her to be spanked on the tushy (we call those "love pats"), and generally annoys the heck out of her. I suspect she secretly loves him too.

January 2010 Pet o' the Month...SOPHIE
Meet the newest Dublin Bay "chaircat of the board wannabe," Sophie. She traveled all the way from Georgia to join Cailan's family. She's full of pure puppy goodness, and really enjoys snuggling up, whether it's in her tent, draped over Cailan, or nestled next to her new big brother, Byron. Despite being an Italian Greyhound, does anyone see a resemblance to Whiskey below? It's all in the ears!
December 2009 Pet o' the Month...WHISKEY
Meet the lovely, Whiskey, a gorgeous mini Doberman Pinscher. Her favorite color is pink, and she likes to be held like a kitty. Owner/Mom Sandra tells us that she is sometimes referred to as "Radar" because of her one ear up, one ear down look. Because of some nasty eye issues, little Whiskey has been through a lot, but she's doing better and better and likes to take a few treats from Tricia whenever she stops by. She also works at Portland Closet Company where we're sure she is the favorite "employee!"
November 2009 Pet o' the Month...ABBY
This month's covergirl is Abby. Abby is quite the wiggler, and because of this, she has required not one, but two, photoshoots with Jenny. She just can't keep that tail still! And when it wiggles, WATCH OUT! That happy little tail can thwap you into the next room! Abby stops at our door several times a week during her walks with Nana Leslie, and she knows just where we keep the treats. She also knows who will give her the most (Tricia), but who could say No to those big, brown eyes and that wiggly, little body?
October 2009 Pet o' the Month...STELLA
Meet Stella Walla-Roo Boice! Stella belongs to Sam, who works at Lorna's Laces in Chicago, and long ago sent us the nicest email about our website. Later she and her husband spent part of their honeymoon in Portland, and we got to meet her in person! Though we haven't met Stella yet, we're sure she'd be a Dublin Bay girl! She is called Stella Walla-Roo because she makes noises in her sleep like a walrus and jumps like a kangaroo. She also enjoys emulating the family cat, Gryphon, by jumping up and sitting in the window. Stella is also about to celebrate her 3rd birthday by travelling to Oklahoma where she will see her first cow!
September 2009 Pet o' the Month...OZ
This handsome boy visits us from Kansas City every summer. He is a Rhodesian Ridgeback and a complete mush. He loves to tour around the Pearl District with his mom, Margot, and always stops by the shop for a few treats.
Lady Clementine Olivia Wimbledon

How did Dublin Bay get started? Well, Hardy and Oliver, of course!
Hardy (more commonly referred to as Pandy) showed up on my doorstep in 1995. A bruiser with bad legs, he turned to mush whenever his name was called. He was known to hug me when I picked him up, and would run as fast as his little legs would take him when it was "tuny time."
Oliver (Ollie Bunny, Ollie Otter Pop, Ollie B, Ollie o' Bunny, Couga Bunny and the list goes on and on) found me at the University of Virginia in the summer of 1991. He was starving and all on his own, scrounging for scraps in the apartment complex dumpsters. My housemates and I tried to get him to come to us for weeks that summer, but to no avail. Finally, one day in August, as I walked home from another boring class, I spied Ollie sitting on his rock. I bent down and called to him, expecting him to walk or run off as he usually did. That day he chose me by running over and jumping into my lap, nearly knocking me over. He's been my true love since that day, traveling with me from one apartment to the next, from Charlottesville, Virginia to Portland, Oregon. I am still convinced that he is the only gentleman to ever come out of the University of Virginia, though that's just one Seattleite's opinion. Ollie has been forever immortalized in my first novel, Oliver Astray in the Emerald City. Though it has gone through two name changes since it was first shopped around to agents and publishers, it will always be that to me, and hopefully, one day it will be published.
One September day in 2002, Hardy was diagnosed with a salivary gland carcinoma — cancer. We spent months in the waiting room of Portland Veterinary Oncology Clinic pursuing radiation treatments and chemotherapy. I'd tried knitting before, but it didn't stick until he got sick. I taught myself on little things like baby booties, just to keep my mind occupied. Hardy would curl up next to me on the couch while I knitted and he healed. We had lots of quiet, quality time there on the sofa that winter.
Sadly, Hardy passed away a year later on December 3, 2003. That same day, Ollie underwent surgery to remove his spleen. He was diagnosed with mast cells — more cancer, and so back to the cancer clinic we went. This time it was chemotherapy and lots more hanging around the waiting room and lots more anxious knitting. Ollie went on to fight off the cancer for the next 4 1/2 YEARS (and counting), and is still with me, for now. His treatments have concluded, and he can have all the tuna he wants. He spends most of his days following sunny patches around our townhouse, but spends every night on the corner of my bed. Lately he's been sleeping on my lap too — Tricia
Ollie Bunny passed away on November 8, 2008 in Tricia's arms. He put up the bravest of fights against an enemy we couldn't see. He was just 11 days shy of marking 5 years as a cancer survivor. He will be forever loved and sorely missed by all he touched in his 18 years of life. Rest in peace in a lovely sunny patch, Ollie B, you're the love of my life and will always be my Honey Bunny -- Tricia
